Digital Drag Race User Battle: Winner is Momcilo Stojkovic

Skill and talent are two words that come to mind when I think about the winner of the 2nd Digital Drag Race User Battle. Before I get into the actual meat of the interview, please take a look at this video from Momcilo Stojkovic. Awesome does not even describe this amazing piece of art.

Who are you? Tell us a little bit about yourself.

First of all, my name is Momcilo Stojkovic and I'm 17. I live in Belgrade, Serbia, where I go to a high school for computing and I'm attending the third year. Apart school, I'm into sports, especially soccer and table tennis, where the second one represent a regular sport activity.

How did you get started and what interested you in digital design?

Two years ago, while I was watching a TV series Smallville, I got interested in the way they were doing special effects, and since then little by little I started to learn only from the internet where, as it was the only way for me to learn in that time. But now, I have an opportunity to study a course for "Multimedia" in my own high school.

What is your creative process in creating this video? What was the inspiration?

My only inspiration for making this video was the wish to make something that would blow everybody's mind when they see it, I'm just joking of course, I just wanted to make a special effects video as realistic as I could, hoping that people would like it.

What other creative endeavors do you enjoy? What are your influences?

My other activities consist of programming, mostly Windows applications and I particularly enjoy making full 3D games with my school friends. Last year we participated in the Imagine Cup 2008 game development which was organized by Microsoft and we've managed to qualify in the second round of the competition among at least 1000 teams from all over the world and as the only team from Serbia we entered in the first 100. When it comes to influences, I have to say that I got most of the positive influences from my school and of course my teachers.

What is in the works for now? Anything you are interested in trying?

Right now, I'm working on a music video for an American rock band called Strive, and I'm also involved in making a new 3D video game and a short film for this years Imagine Cup 2009. After I finish that I would like to direct/edit my own film where I could implement all my knowledge in special effects.

Do you have any links you would like to share? Yes indeed I have. Everything that I learned about special effects I learned it from Video Copilot. That website is definitely one of the best places to learn how to use Adobe After Effects.
