Intel Insiders Set to Explore Intel Fab, Labs and WiMAX in Oregon

Tomorrow and Friday, I'll be joining a handful of Intel Insiders to get an insider's, hands-on look at the Intel innovation engines rockin' in Oregon.

Tom Foremski shared his excitement about the trip this week, as did the Portland Social Media Club, which will join us for a Thursday evening Tweetup at the legendary Green Dragon.

In addition to visiting Intel's Fab 20, and the healthcare, My Wi-Fi and WiMAX labs, we're also taking the opportunity to have the Intel Insiders meet with our Intel's Center of Excellence and Software & Services Group, two groups pionnering Intel's social media efforts.

We'll be sharing the experience through @intel, and we'll share some videos and photos here on the Inside Scoop, Intel Fan page in Facebook and Channel Intel on YouTube.

We’ll have:

They’ll learn from real engineers about what it’s like working inside a “Clean Room” and what it takes to build a state-of-the-art chip manfuacturing plant.

Intel has been changing the world with its chips for 40 years, well before the Internet became a household name.

With last week’s news about Intel teaming up with GE to form a $250M Healthcare Alliance, we’ll get a first hand look at the Healthcare guide, Intel’s ethnographical “real people” research and experiemental devices inside Intel’s Digital Healthcare Lab.

We’ll check out the Intel My WiFi lab and see how Intel’s wireless technology is turning laptops with built-in WiFi into Personal Area Network (PAN) that can connect with other Wi-Fi certified devices such as photo frames, cameras and printers like in this video.

For two day throughout the Portland area, Insiders will get to test out WiMAX, which was first offered in Baltimore last October.

This high-speed broadcast wireless technology is great for live videocasting with its 3-times faster than 3G connection.  WiMAX blankets the Portland area, so we’ll get to see the Intel Insiders feeding their social networks using the WiMAX-equipped Intel Centrino 2 laptops we’re loaning them during their visit.

Here’s is Sarah Austin’s Justin.TV channel, where we hope she’ll be sharing some of her Intel Insider experience live from Oregon.
