Acer Timeline Laptop Makes Me Want to Get Back to School

After uploading this video earlier today, it really got me thinking how much I’d love to be back in college. No, I wouldn’t trade anything to travel back in time — I like movin’ ahead! — but I get the feeling today’s students are very inspired by all of the industry transformations and problems that need solving.

Light as your time can be_1246342775509

The video is about Acer Aspire Timeline with Intel Inside, but it also shows scenes of a student using her laptop from sun up to sun down. I bet more people every day turn their laptop on as soon as they get out of bed and keep it running until they hit the sheets. Acer shows it’s now possible to run a thin, full featured laptop as many as eight hours straight on one full batter charge.

Did You See It? Intel Featured on the Tonight Show!

Did you see it?! I stayed up way past my bedtime last night to watch The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Why? Because as part of a new sponsorship deal, Intel and the "Sponsors of Tomorrow" campaign will be woven into on-air and online components of Conan's new show!

E3 Madness and Bustin' Ghosts

The Electronic Entertainment Expo has now come and gone - but the show has definitely returned to its former glory.  I daresay it's even better than before, as the show floor was less like a can of sardines and the line waits were quite reasonable.

It's really hard to figure out where to start when talking about E3; I saw so many games that it can be difficult to remember all of the awesome titles that were shown.  I'll do my best to capture all the ones that I'm the most excited about here though.

I got my hands on an Ultra thin laptop

... an Acer Aspire to be exact. I was able to snatch it up for the weekend; and decided to take it to friend's barbecue to see what people thought about it.

Viliv X70 MID Pre-Orders July 6

Inspired by Inside Scoop Maestro Michael Brito -- he did a great video preview of the Viliv S5 back when the mobile Internet device was about to hit the market -- I got hooked on the solid, nifty Viliv MID design.

Just prior to Computex, my "i gotta have one" device desire was hijacked by the Viliv X70, the slightly bigger, more technically equipped Intel Atom powered) sibling to the Viliv S5.

Sneak Peek Into Our Tech Future

Research@Intel Day 2009

Some of Intel’s top researchers are gathered inside the Computer History Museum Thursday to show of their latest projects aimed at helping future gadgets, computers and just about anything that connects to the Internet (cars, schools, homes) harness the ever improving performance of Intel processors.

On Wednesday, I joined the Research@Intel day set up crew and captured some photos and video interviews (will go on this Intel Labs playlist)with researchers who are working on things I’m very interested in: small mobile Internet devices, Internet browsing, HD video and WiMAX wireless broadband technology.

I'm a Mobile Misfit...

According to our Mobile Etiquette Facebook quiz I don't "tech responsibly":

"As a Mobile Misfit, mobile etiquette is not in your vocabulary. Mobile devices were created to make life easier for you and others, not to wreak havoc on those around you. It's time for an intervention!"

This may be true, but I don't think I'm alone here! Come on, we've all seen it, someone holding up the coffee line as they finish a call on their cell, someone hogging an entire table with their laptop, netbook and other gadgets or someone checking out "inappropriate" content on a laptop in a public place!

Building a better, faster, multi-core Tomorrow @ Kid to Work Day!

Each year, I get the opportunity to volunteer at our local campus to help setup Kid to Work Day - many companies have promoted this type of activity where the employees can bring their kids to work to see what happens on a daily basis. Well, for the past 6 years - I’ve been lucky enough to host the Technology Showcase and we get to have some fun with new technology! As a member of the site committee, we get a small stipend to showcase new PC technology to Intel employees and their kids… Our Technology Showcase is always a hit, and we usually get over 2,000 visitors in one day.

Usually there are a handful of us working on the setup - and we provide 20-40 Core2 Duo systems for the kids to try out new techologies. But this year, we’ve added the Core i7 to the mix and what a setup! We built a couple Intel Core i7 Workstations setup with quad monitor displays - can you say WOW!?! What’s even more crazy is that this setup can be built for about $2.5k - I’m not kidding!

Give Me What I Want for Tomorrow -- T-Shirt and Song

Since Intel’s “Sponsors of Tomorrow” ad campaign hit TV, print, online, and on and in-store advertising campaign hit many of our daily visit spots, I’ve seen lots of great responses.

Two of the most common came in the form these requests (or demands):

Rock Stars -- Intel Sponsors of Tomorrow

  • I want an Ajay Bhatt t-shirt!
  • What is that song in the “Rock Star” TV ads?

If you have or haven’t seen the “Rock Stars” Intel Sponsors of Tomorrow TV ad, you can take a look and see why Intel’s fan base wants the T-shirt and more about the song.

Intel Insiders Social Media Advisor Program Turns Two

Two steps forward and a half step back to see if we’re going in the right direction and bringing forward things that can help us leap into tomorrow. That’s how we’re celebrating the June 24 anniversary of our Intel Insiders social media adviser program.

Intel Insiders Capturing Intel HistoryLast year, my Global Communications teammates agreed that we’d benefit from fresh advice from people who are doing great things in the quickly advancing area of social media. We wanted to get more involved with the inspiration, talent and know-how we saw driving people to communicate and share experiences and knowledge online.

So we pulled together some long time acquaintances, invited a few new friends we admired and created the Intel Insiders.

Computex Watch -- The Skinny on Laptops, New Mobile Devices

Wow, lots of new innovations on being unveiled at Computex in Taipei during the first few days. I’ve been keeping my eyes on a few people there on the scene, and from there branching out to see the reaction from gadget lovers who aren’t at the show (like me).

Gizmodo’s Adrian Covert hit early with “Intel unleashed a flurry of new processors at Computex, including the T9900 Core 2 Duo, which clocks in at a speedy 3.06 GHz—the first Penryn-based Core 2 Duo chip to do so.” and Ubergizmo gave their take, “Intel Makes Mobile More Mobile @ Computex.”
