Give Me What I Want for Tomorrow -- T-Shirt and Song

Since Intel’s “Sponsors of Tomorrow” ad campaign hit TV, print, online, and on and in-store advertising campaign hit many of our daily visit spots, I’ve seen lots of great responses.

Two of the most common came in the form these requests (or demands):

• I want an Ajay Bhatt t-shirt!
• What is that song in the “Rock Star” TV ads?

If you have or haven’t seen the “Rock Stars” Intel Sponsors of Tomorrow TV ad, you can take a look and see why Intel’s fan base wants the T-shirt and more about the song.

So far, the “Rock Star” video on Channel Intel in YouTube has 750,000 views, 590 comments, 2,000 ratings and has been selected as a favorite 3,700 times. We’ve seen this ad featured on several other YouTube sites, owned by Intel fans.

There are many videos on YouTube with millions of views, but this is the first Intel video on YouTube that I’ve seen break the million view mark. More than views, I’m amazed at the number and positive tone of the comments.

Rock Star Ajay Bhatt T-Shirt

The Ajay Bhatt T-Shirt shown on the video drew many request, and our Inside Scoop guide Michael Brito found a way to get fans involved in a giveaway. Michael awarded winners their T-shirts. We hope to get our hands on more T-shirts to giveaway at future events, like the Intel Developer Forum.

Another part of the Sponsors of Tomorrow campaign is the retail store ad placement. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I’ve seen the ad in the windows of the Union Square building that formerly known as the Disney store. You’ll see San Francisco and other places across the U.S. where people saw the ads and in some places where able to engage with the ad, where they could text a message that appeared on the ad.

The Power Chord Music

As for the music in the Rock Star TV ad, some on YouTube thought it was an AC-DC or Def Leopard riff. I asked around and found out that it’s Jimmy Haun, who was inspired by the big, bombastic rock songs of the 1970s and early 1980s.

I asked how Jimmy came up with the shredding, power-chord sound. “The slow-motion effect on the footage just seemed to work well with the slower rock, bombastic pace of those kind of tracks,” Jimmy wrote in response to my request. “Once the music started coming together, it just seemed like a great marriage!”

I also had to ask Jimmy, what technology did you use? “MacPro with two Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processors,” he replied. “For software, it’s Digital Performer 6.”
