Oh yeah, some other bands played at Outsidelands, too.

I almost forgot to mention, with all my interviews for Day 2, that some other "lesser known" bands played the Outsidelands on Day 2. Recognize any of these guys?

OutsideLands SF 2009 Day 2......bring on the musicians!

Demo guy here.  And while I've been here at the SF Outsidelands Music festival here in Golden Gate park, I've got a chance to speak with some of the performers of the festival and see how they've been digging the weekend festivities.

Raphael Saardiq was great enough to come by the Intel Dome after his Day 2 performance to talk to me a little bit about Outsidelands and Intel Technology.  If you can hear over the jaming Intel DJ, Raphael had some great things to say about the concert experience, and how he wouldn't dream of using anything other than Intel platforms to produce all his projects (exagerating a little, but check the vid....).

Live from the Outlands Intel Dance Party......is Intel cool again?

Yeah, you heard it.  Intel Dance Party!  Imprumptu, but a dance party none-the-less.

I got asked to come out to the Outsidelands in San Francisco @ Golden Gate Park to cover our Intel Dome and get a good look at the over 100 bands during the 3 day concert.

"Sure, why not?"

Let's say I was a little suprised upon arriving.  The Intel Dome is a monster tent near the main venue stage, filled with an O2 bar, free drinks, augmented reality demos, live DJ, even inviting some of the attendees behind the DJ booth to do a little scratching of their own.

Blizzcon Goodie Bag - and a video montage of the event...

425_gruntymarine.jpg Ok - I’ll be totally honest here… when I was first invited to goto Blizzcon - I hesitated. Why? Well, for one - I’m not a Warcraft player, I’ve seen Starcraft, and many of my friends have lost countless hours playing the Diablo series games… so why wasn’t I hooked on these games?

After attending Blizzcon - I now realize why Blizzard’s ‘accidental community’ is such a strong community… it’s a mix of the people, the game lore, the artistry involved - and finally - the games themselves!

For the Alliance? or Horde? Blizzcon 2009 is simply amazing!

As an online gamer, I’m pretty used to ‘community’ practices - finding friends, joining clans, online forums - but this Blizzard crew blows them all away! I’ve had a chance to walk the whole floor, and the amount of energy is just awesome at Blizzcon

I’ll keep this blog short as the booth is pretty busy - but for your World of Warcraft fans, here’s a quick video of the new Cataclysm update

Update from Blizzcon 2009

I have to say that this is much more than I expected; and despite the occasional Blood Elf and Night Elf walking around in full character, everything else seems to be somewhat normal.

In fact, this place is so packed with several thousand World of Warcraft gamers and enthusiasts, I almost want to run down to the local GameStop and grab me a copy of one.

Below are some photos I captured of several winners of the "Game On" contest and random folks here attending the conference.  I also took some video below. It's been great getting to know many of them personally in just a few hours of being here at Blizzcon.  Day one almost over.

Highlights from QuakeCon 2009

More than 6,000 passionate gamers showed up in force at QuakeCon 2009 this past week in Grapevine, Texas. In fact, after setting up the Intel booth the night before the event we peeked next door and were amazed to see thousands of people already waiting in line for the Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) gaming area. The systems these gamers had were pretty cool too - some of them looked as if they could power a small country.

Back to School with a PC That Fits

It's already time for back to school and my little sister is one of thousands who will be a college freshman this year.

Part of the process of her moving to school includes buying her a laptop. When considering what to buy, she consulted me. Some of the items on her technology check list include: light weight, portability and speed. She also wants something she can watch movies and TV on.

Needless to say, I've learned a lot about the PC needs of a college student in the past few weeks. All students has the same basic needs: a great processor, lots of memory and long battery life. But what else? To help my little sis make her decision, I showed her a series of YouTube videos created by Intel to help college student wade through the tech waters as they decide what tech is best for them this back to school season.

'Vote for a Cause' to Win $50K in Advertising with Intel

If you ask around, I'm pretty sure that all of us know someone who works on an amazing cause. I can name several friends and family members who are passionate about one cause or another and I'm excited to announce here that Intel is going to give one nonprofit the chance to bring quite a bit of attention to themselves. A recently launched program called 'Vote for a Cause' which is underway on Facebook allows people to nominate and vote for their favorite nonprofit organization for a chance to win up to $50,000 in advertising with Intel.  Think what $50K could do to help illuminate your cause and bring nationwide attention to it!  Amazing.

All you need to do right now, is nominate on the Vote for a Cause page on Facebook.  Then, in a few days, the voting will start and you'll have your chance to influence the decision.  When I last checked there were over 100 entries so far, and that was only after the site had been live for a day or so.

So hop on, become a fan, nominate your cause or just start watching.  I'm confident some amazing things are going to happen in just a few short weeks.

Intel Making Progress Through Processors

If I had to choose one reason why I like working at Intel, it wouldn’t be because I have a company issued Mac, or the fact that I get to go to CES every year and not have booth duty. Heck, it’s not even that I get to interview celebrities in Hollywood. The one reason is pretty simple; it’s the little things that Intel does to help humanity.

Today, we have officially launched Progress Thru Processors; a new Facebook application that uses idle PC processor power for projects that are geared toward life changing research such as finding cures for deadly diseases and combating climate change.
