Electrified, David Blaine Completes Stunt!

Today, master magician David Blaine—with the help of Intel—completed his latest stunt: His stood for 72 hours non-stop on a 20-foot high platform in a New York City park.

He was surrounded by seven huge Tesla coils that continuously streamed 1 million volts of electricity around him the entire time.

According to Time magazine, the collaboration between Intel and Blaine started at a dinner party during which Blaine stole the watch of Intel’s Johan Jervoe, who leads partner marketing for the Corporate Marketing Group.

“Fortunately for both of them, Jervoe was more intrigued than annoyed, and offered to combine forces for Blaine’s next stunt, something that the magician does not usually do. This time, Blaine was excited by the possibility of literally letting people in on the magic through technology. Bravely, Intel seems unfazed by the deadly potential of the stunt,” Time said.

That’s because spectators where able to control the intensity of the electricity, using Intel-supplied Ultrabooks at the stunt’s location in Manhattan, as well as in public areas in London, Sydney, Beijing and Tokyo.

The New York Times asked, “Is this a new form of cyber-sadism? Executives at Intel, which is sponsoring the event… prefer to call it an ‘experiential exposition.’”

Computer Weekly said Blaine might have come up with a solution to short-lived laptop batteries: “It is selfless of Blaine to demonstrate that the obvious solution is simply to send a million volts through your body, and stick one finger into your Ultrabook power socket, and never again will you be left cursing the hopeless battery life of portable devices. Even if you might need to learn to craft Powerpoints one-handed.”
