Intel Extreme Masters Kickin it at FanExpo Toronto

Here we are at FanExpo in Toronto for the second stop of Intel Extreme Masters Season 9. This stop features the best of the best StarCraft II players competing for their share of the $25,000 prize purse with the winner waking away with a cool $10,000.

This stop is all about StarCraft II and among the StarCraft II elite are two of Canada’s best players who are hoping the home field advantage will give them a leg up on the powerhouse Korean players. Canadian player HuK managed to take the first match of the tournament defeating Koreas Leenock, HuK took the game and set but his momentum faded and he lost his match in the upper bracket final to Danish player Bunny, who, on his win will advance to the group stage. HuK will have another shot to advance to the group stage when he faces off against Leenock once again. You can follow all the matches live at Intel Extreme Masters so be sure to check it out.

We were able to do something very special here at the Extreme Masters on Friday afternoon, we announced the latest addition to the Intel Core processor family, the Core i7 5960X Extreme Edition processor boasting 8 cores and 2.6 billion transistors, that’s right, 2.6 BILLION transistors, wrap your head around that number :-).

We have 4 systems powered by the Core i7 5960X set out so people can experience the performance of this latest processor and I want to give props to NCIX PC and ASUS for providing these awesome systems for our visitors to play with.

Here is the NCIX PC with a Core i7 5960X Extreme Edition processor and three GTX Titan video cards driving three 4K monitors.

As always we have our Consumer Experience Zone showing off the latest and greatest games running on the latest Intel powered desktop systems, 2-in-1’s, All-in-Ones and tablets. I don’t think I’ve ever listed all the games that we have available for free play here in the Consumer Experience Zone so this is what we have here in Toronto.

Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: Ghosts, BlackLight Retribution, Batman, Final Fantasy XVI, Eve Online,, Hearthstone, FIFA 14, StarCraft II Heart of the Swarm, Titanfall, Grid Autosport and Lucky’ s Tale.

We have the latest Oculus Rift SDK2 virtual reality goggles here for people to try out and people were lining up to play Lucky’s Tale and experience the 360° 3D gameplay. This experience is so immersive we had people sitting on stools while they played so they wouldn’t lose their balance and fall over. The Oculus Rift is still in the development stages and I personally can’t wait for these things to be released.

The FanExpo is big on Cosplay, there have been some amazing costumes and I’ve been out taking pictures and uploading them to our Intel Extreme Masters Flickr page so have a look.

We also have had some celebrity sightings as well, Adam West and Burt Ward from TV’s Batman and Robin, Nathan Fillion from the TV series Firefly and Castle, Robert English (Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street), Edward James Olmos from Battlestar Gallactica (I remember him better from Miami Vice) and a bunch I’m not familiar with, all adding to the excitement.

I’ll be posting pictures throughout the weekend and I’ll recap this stop of Intel Extreme Masters once the tournament is finished so be sure to check back, as always I welcome comments and questions.
