And when I say heating up I mean it’s HOT here in Shanghai. According to the local news, Friday (July 26th) saw the hottest temperature ever recorded in Shanghai, a balmy 102°F. That didn’t stop people from coming out in mass to China Joy 2013, thousands of gaming enthusiasts converged on the New Shanghai Exposition Center to see the latest and greatest in PC and Mobile games. Here’s a picture from our corner in Hall 3 to give you an idea of the crowds, and there are 4 other halls, estimated attendance for the show is 400,000 over 4 days!
Our Consumer Experience Zone has been packed with people trying out our Core i7 gaming desktops, as well as the latest 4th generation Core i7 gaming laptops from Razer, Asus, Alienware and MSI featuring Intel Iris and Iris Pro graphics. In addition, we have added a new feature to the Consumer Experience Zone, a special area where people can get even closer to the latest Intel powered mobile devices. We have several tablets, All-in-One computers, Two-in-One Ultrabooks and the latest Intel powered phones from Motorola and Lenovo, visitors are loving being able to touch and experience these devices, many for the first time.
Our Shootmania mini tournament has been a resounding success and our fastest lap of the day challenge featuring iRacing.com has people lined up 50 deep to test their skill driving a simulated Formula 1 car. At the end of each day the winner of each competition wins a Core i7 Extreme processor, pretty hot prize I would say.
As for the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm and League of Legends tournament… It’s business as usual with massive crowds sitting and standing to take in all the action. The competition has been fierce with the players competing for $25,000 and $30,000 in cash prizes. The crowds are enthusiastic, cheering for their favorite players, and here in Shanghai the players are like rock stars. As usual you can follow all the action at Intel Extreme Masters website.
This has been a truly amazing show, gaming in China is huge, unbelievably huge and the Peking duck is pretty good too. Look for my next Intel Extreme Master Blog later in September as we prepare to take the show to Comic Con in NYC October 10th ~ 13th, see you there.
