Intel Extreme Masters Season 8 Champions have been crowned!

Intel Extreme Masters has once again rocked Katowice Poland and raised the roof on the Spodek Arena, an estimated 55,000+ StarCraft II and League of Legends fans enthusiastically showed their support over the course of the three day championship tournament.

In the StarCraft II Grand Final Korean Kim “sOs” Yoo Jin out played tournament favorite Kim “herO” Joon Ho to claim the $100,000 winner take all prize and the title of StraCraft II Champion. It took just 5 maps for the smiling assassin to win the prize with a 4 games to 1 victory.  herO  did not walk away empty handed though, he was crowned the Intel Extreme Masters “Sickest Nerd Baller” by community vote, a title he had previously won in Sao Paulo Brazil, so he does have that badge of honor to wear proudly.

The League of Legends Grand Final saw OnGameNet representatives KT Rolster Bullets crush the heavily favored Fnatic team sweeping the finals 3-0. KT Rolster Bullets showed they are a team to be reckoned with winning the tournament as the sole Korean representative beating Millenium, Invictus Gaming, Gambit Gaming and Fnatic without losing a single game.

If you missed any of the excitement of these World Championships just go to the Intel Extreme Masters website and look for videos, all the matches have been recorded and are there for your viewing pleasure.

In between matches the crowds here in Katowice had the opportunity to visit our Intel Extreme Masters Consumer Experience Zone where we had all the latest games available for our guests to try out, all running on the latest Intel Core family of processors. Desktop system, gaming laptops, 2-in-1’s and All-in-one systems were there and available to tryout. We also handed out some pretty nice prizes to the daily winners of our ShootMaina and fastest lap competitions, each day the winners took home a Core i7 processor so congratulations to those winners!

The World Championship here in Katowice wraps up a spectacular Intel Extreme Masters Season 8 which took us to Shanghai, New York City, Singapore, Sao Paulo and Cologne where we witnessed some of the most exciting eSports competition on the planet. I personally have had a great time being part of, and blogging about, the Intel Extreme Masters gaming series and I’m looking forward to an even bigger and better Season 9.

I’ll be doing a wrap up of the complete season soon so watch this space.
