Intel Extreme Masters Season 9 kicks off in Shenzhen China

This is the ultimate prize, this is what the competition over the course of the season leads to, this is what every competitor is aiming for.

IEM Trophy

It’s hard to believe we are starting our 9th season of Intel Extreme Masters, WOW! Time really does fly when you are having fun. We are kicking off the season at the Shenzhen Cartoon and Anime Festival July 16th~ 21st. This event in Shenzhen is the fifth time that the Intel® Extreme Masters has visited China, and the second year in a row we have kick off the season in China, previous stops were in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu.

This 9th season makes Intel Extreme Masters the longest ongoing pro gaming event sponsorship in the world with Intel sponsoring the competition since 2006. George Woo, Event & Sponsorship Programs Marketing Manager at Intel voiced his excitement ahead of the upcoming tournament series:

Eight seasons long we’ve had one goal: to provide the best PC gaming technology to the best players from around the world. I couldn’t be happier to see this goal extending into the ninth season of the Intel Extreme Masters. I’m confident that with the things we have in store, it’ll be the best Intel Extreme Masters season yet!

The tournament lineup at this first stop will feature StarCraft II, HearthStone “Heroes of Warcraft” and League of Legends. StarCraft II competitors will be vying for $25,000 in prize money, Hearthstone will award $10,000 in prize money and League of Legends players will be fighting it out for $5,000 in prize money. As always competition will be fierce and you can follow all the action live from the ESL Intel Extreme Masters website.

In addition we will be hosting a mini tournament showcasing the game Speed Up, and the really cool thing… the game will be played using Intel powered ASUS tablets! Competition will take place during intermission between StarCraft II matches and the winner of this mini tournament will take home a cool $5,000 in prize money.

Our Consumer Experience Zone will be back with the latest and greatest Intel powered devices showcasing tablets, all-in-ones, 2-in-1 notebooks, gaming laptops and gaming desktop all running the latest games and all are free to play.

Our two mini competitions are returning as well, our Formula 1 fastest lap of the day competition where the person who sets the fastest time for the day wins a Core i7 processor Extreme Edition. We also have our ShootMania competition where eight preliminary rounds, consisting of 8 players in each round, will be held each day and the winner of each round will advance to that day’s final round with the winner receiving an Intel Core i7 processor Extreme Edition, pretty sweet prizes.

I’m very excited to be returning to China for the Season 9 kick-off, looking forward to the Shenzhen Cartoon and Anime Festival as well, the cosplay at this event will be epic, I’ll be sure to post some pictures as the event gets going so be sure to check back next week for all the latest happenings.
