Intel Extreme Masters at Comic Con, we’re not in Kansas anymore Toto

Here we are in NYC at Comic Con, the land of outrageous costumes and general wackiness. The crowds here at Comic Con have been huge; the tournament area has been absolutely packed during the competitions as has the free gaming area of the IEM booth.

The make-up of attendees has been very interesting to say the least, lots of folks come dressed as their favorite comic book characters which make for some fun people watching. The dirty water dogs that I’ve been eating for lunch have been pretty awesome as well plus there’s a Haagan Dazs ice cream cart across the aisle from the IEM booth so I’m in heaven :-)

As I’m writing this entry I have the finals of Quake Live being played right next to me so my world s filled with frags, rail guns and red armor LOL. Rapha and DaHang are the two competitors fighting for the win and watching these two professionals is fascinating, these guys are fast and accurate. As a casual Quake Live (I’m AutBot on-line) player it amazes me how these professionals can be so accurate with their weapons while moving as quickly as they do. Counter Strike Finals are up next with Complexity vs. Team EvilGeniuses followed by the StarCraft II finals with Fenix playing qxc. If you haven’t done so check out the blog posts from Team EvilGeniuses on Inside Scoop, they will give you some great insight into the world of professional gamers and keep up with all the action at Intel Extreme Masters website.

Jason Lisner came home the winner in the US/Canada Finals of the Intel GP Series, held on Saturday. Lisner edged Wyatt Gooden by .216s for the win over twenty laps of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Star Mazdas, with Jake Stergios and Ray Alfalla rounding-out the top four. Lisner, Gooden, Stergios and Alfalla will thus join European finalists Bastien Bartsch (France), Greger Huttu (Scandinavia), RIchard Towler (England) and David Williams (England) in the Intel GP Series Extreme Masters Finals in Germany at CeBIT in March, 2011. The field for the ten car Finals will be completed by the top two finishers in the Intel GP Series from Asia/Australia.

The Counter Strike finals are getting started so I’m going to end here so I can watch and possibly pick up a few pointers to help improve my on-line performance, stay tuned….
