Monsters vs. Aliens Movie Premiere

(See pics from the movie premiere below)

Imagine if you will a paddle ball on a rubber band shooting out and the entire movie-going audience shifting to the right to avoid getting hit.  When Jeffrey Katzenberg said that Intruâ„¢ 3D helped deliver immerse storytelling he wasn't joking.  I had the opportunity to take my 5-year-old son to the premiere for Monsters vs. Aliens this past week end.  He sat through the entire movie, first time ever, that should tell you something right there.

Let me start with the movie premiere.  After deftly explaining to my son why the 2-mile line of press wasn't taking our pictures, we were equipped with 3D glasses, popcorn, cotton candy, foam B.O.B figures and soda cups with monster bobble heads.  This was merchandising heaven - I can't wait until it hits the stores!  Actually I can, but Noah is pretty excited for some Monsters vs. Aliens fruit snacks, pajamas, cereal, t-shirts, Happy Meals* and three thousand other items.  I better start saving now.

My Intru3d Experience: Video

Seriously, and I am not saying this just because I work for Intel either. But my experience watching the Monsters vs Aliens trailer was quite awesome indeed. Perhaps it was because I was watching it on a gargantuan of a television; a 52 inch Sony Plasma. Check the video and you will see what I am talking about (watch it in high quality):

If my experience really sucked, I would be the first to let you know - trust me.

Did You Catch the 3D Super Bowl Commercials?

Like many people, one of main reasons I watch the Super Bowl every year is to see all of the great commercials. So I was particularly excited about Super Bowl XLIII today to see the much anticipated commercials in 3D.

More than 125 million pairs of Intel 3D glasses were made available for free at 25,000 different SoBe Lifewater retail displays in grocery, drug and other retail stores throughout January. Intel-3Dglasses1.jpg

Hopefully you were able to grab one of the more than 125 million pairs of Intel 3D glasses made available for free at various SoBe Lifewater displays in retail stores to check out the 3D commercial for DreamWorks' "Monsters vs. Aliens".

Behind the Scenes Interview with DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg

Last year, Intel and DreamWorks Animation announced a strategic partnership aimed at redefining 3-D filmmaking technology. This alliance will take full advantage of Intel's visual computing products and DreamWorks Animation's expertise in content creation to revolutionize the in-theater entertainment experience; with Monsters Vs Aliens being the first of many animated films to use what's known as Intru3d technology.

Check out this behind the scenes interview with Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks who talks about the importance of the Intel and DreamWorks relationship; what's next for 3-D technology, the upcoming Super Bowl commercial and even showcases a pair of 3-D glasses.

Get Your Intel 3-D Glasses For 'Monstrous' Super Bowl

As the Associated Press outlined today, Dreamworks Animation, Intel, Pepsi/Sobi and NBC plan a big Monsters vs. Aliens upcoming movie promotion leading up to (and hint, after) the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl ad will be presented in 3-D, and you can get your Intel and InTru3-D branded glasses - more than 150 million of them - at more than 25,000 Pepsi/SoBe Life Water displays found at local grocery, drug and retailer stores. Don't worry, the commercial will also be viewable without the glasses.

As I noted in a previous post, Dreamworks is taking the lead on a movie-making and theatrical shift to 3-D. This is not your grandfather's 3-D, with the red and blue glasses.

This first-of-its-kind 3D Super Bowl commercial break is the official debut of DreamWorks Animation's Monsters movie trailer, comes to theaters in the U.S. on March 27th and includes the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen and Kiefer Sutherland among others.

And as I hinted, this is not the only 3-D 'stunt' planned. Stay tuned for more...

Filmmakers and Intel

I love storytelling.  As part of intel.com, there is an entire section of the site devoted to storytelling, What's Inside You.  We collect stories from Intel Customers and share them.  One of my favorite stories is Mike Landry's Cubicle, a fun short video:

Madagascar 2 in theaters today and a little surprise during the previews

Get the popcorn and Red Vines ready because I am gearing up to go see Madagascar 2 this weekend for two reasons, well three.  The first is that my daughters loved the first one and I promised to take them.  The second is that I am a huge fan of Ben, Chris and Jada.  And the third is to see the Monsters vs. Aliens trailer during the previews; and believe it or not, the previews are always the best part of the movie-going experience for me.

Not only does Monsters vs. Aliens has an awesome cast featuring the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Hugh Laurie (from House) and Seth Rogen (Superbad, Knocked Up and Kung Fu Panda); but it's also the first-ever animated movie using InTru3D technology.

So Michael, tell me .... what exactly is InTru3D technology?
