Explore the talent of Mass Animation. It's good. Really good.

I just went to the Mass Animation Facebook app and reviewed some of the animations that have been submitted. They are short - about 5 seconds or so - but quite awesome. I am amazed at the raw talent of these folks. In fact, I am pleased to announce our first weekly top rated submission; Arturo Martin's version of "Riff Awakes" Shot #6. In this shot, Sticks, the drummer, comes to life. Arturo will be the winner of the first DELL XPS computer. Congrats to you, Arturo. Here is his animation:

It's time to animate ... "Live Music" is finally here!

The highly anticipated Facebook Animation project is finally here. "Live Music" tells the tale of Riff, a rock n' roll guitar, who falls in love to the wrong song, but ends up with Vanessa, the violin of his dreams. If you have the skills to participate in this project, watch the story reel to decide which scenes that you want to animate.  Don't forget to spread the word to your peeps so they can vote for you. Here is a link to the app and Facebook fan page.

The following is Ann Marie who plays the voice of Vanessa, the Violin.

Update on Mass Animation; and why you should consider joining the fun!

If you are having second thoughts on participating in the Mass Animation project scheduled to kick off on November 17th, think again. With less than a week left before pandemonium erupts in Facebook, the benefits are stockpiling.

Check this ...

Each week of the competition, Dell will be giving away a new Dell Studio XPS™ desktop computer powered by the Intel® Core™ i7 processor to the animator with the most popular animation of the week; based on voting from the Facebook community.  So the key take away is that if you decide to join the fun, be sure to let your peeps know what you are doing and how to get involved.

For the Grand Prize, it's all about ego and fame!  Each animator who get's selected by the director to be in the film will receive an on-screen credit and $500. Yup, your name for millions to see and envy; and a little coin in your pocket. Not bad for doing the things you love to do!

First Mass Animation, now Digital Drag Race?

So, the other day I wrote about this killer Facebook application, Mass Animation, for animators to compete against each other and showcase their skills for the world.

Well, how about trying on the Digital Drag Race for size. The Digital Drag Race is a chance for leading designers in the industry to face off and showcase their mad skills in a digital design challenge. Chosen designers will be given the same software, system build and set of design assets to race against the clock in a timed, motion graphics design challenge. When the challenge is completed, Judge's Choice will be determined by a panel of industry experts. People's Choice will be determined by public voting held on the Digital Drag Race site.

Clear the way for Mass Animation

Yes, if you are an animation fan, an animator or someone who just likes cool movies like Hancock, The Chronicles of Narnia and the Happening, please read on.  Okay, the Happening was really a horrible movie but there were 1 or 2 phenomenal scenes like the car crash and lion attack.

Nonetheless, Mass Animation is a collaborative effort that combines the dynamic worlds of extreme animation, Hollywood and Facebook (yes, the social network). It is a contest whereby participating animators will have an exclusive opportunity to create individual scenes for a 5-minute, professional-quality short film to be debuted sometime in early 2009 -- stay tuned for more!
