Mon Ami Gabi: Sweet French Food in Las Vegas

Mon Ami GabiIn my previous post, Las Vegas for Foodies, I discussed a number of different Las Vegas restaurant options for CES attendees. When there are so many good restaurants to choose from, it’s hard to decide where to eat. Last night I enjoyed great mexican food, and today I saved up calories all day for tonight’s dinner at Mon Ami Gabi at Paris Resort & Casino.

Mon Ami Gabi is a bustling place. I arrived just as a number of other tables were being seated. As such, it took a few minutes for my waitress to make her way to my table. However, once past this initial slowness, service was very good.

I chose the Butter Lettuce and Apple Salad, dressed with beets, goat cheese and apple cider vinaigrette as a starter. I am fascinated by beets of late. I just can’t get enough of the sweet and tart goodness. I enjoyed all the flavors of the salad–beets, cheese, apples and dressing; however because of how it was presented, I had a hard time getting the perfect bite with just enough dressing, fruit, cheese, and vegetable. Once I cut up the various elements and moved them around a bit, I enjoyed the taste much more. It’s just a little disappointing to have to mess up the entire plate at once instead of as I go, which is a minor thing considering how much I liked it and would order it again.

breadIt’s not surprising that French restaurant did gluten-free bread as well as Mon Ami Gabi did, but it was really delicious, sweet and toasted, which gave it a crusty texture, just like “real” French bread. If you usually have a French baguette and aren’t overly fond of it, you might order the gluten-free bread to give it a try.

For my main course, I ordered the Atlantic Salmon which was served on top pureed potatoes, mushrooms, and pearl onions and a red wine sauce. When it arrived, the diner sitting at the next table exclaimed over how nice it looked. The seared fish was very moist and flaky. I loved the pureed potatoes, which melted in my mouth.

Forget macaroni and cheese, food as good as this is my comfort food. I can definitely recommend it.

If you’d like to uplevel your dining experience, you can ask for a table outdoors and enjoy a view of the Bellagio fountains during dinner.

For CES attendees, Mon Ami Gabi is centrally located. There is even a monorail stop next to the restaurant. From a technology perspective, at a two-person table, there is only enough room for you to check your smart phone or tablet. The tables are placed much closer together, as is customary in Europe. The lighting is a bit intimate, which is fine if you’re attending with friends, but if you’re trying to take pictures of your dinner, the lighting makes getting good photos without disrupting other diners a bit more challenging.
