We’re Baaaaack, Intel Extreme Masters Season VI

It seems like only last week I was writing my last entry for Intel’s Extreme Masters season V and here we are at the kick off of season VI, wow, time really does fly when you are having fun! This season promises to be even more exciting than last year beginning with the Global Challenge at gamescom Cologne, Germany August 17th ~ 21st followed by:

Ani-Com & Games Global Challenge Guangzhou China, October 1st ~ 5th 2011
NY Comic-Con Global Challenge New York City, October 13th ~16th 2011
Campus Party Sao Paulo Brazil, February 6th ~ 12th 2012
World Championship’s Hannover Germany, March 6th ~ 10th 2012

The Global Challenge at gamescom in Cologne is drawing the best Star Craft II and League of Legends players from around the world vying for $53,000 in prize money with $6,500 going to the winner of Star Craft II and $12,000 to the winner of League of Legends, that’s some serious money folks. The crowds will be huge again this year with standing room only during the matches, but hey, you don’t have to be there to watch the competition, Electronic Sports League will be streaming all of the competition on multiple channels throughout the event so be sure to tune in.

We are also stepping up the user experience this year with a full blown gaming zone featuring some of the more popular games for guests of gamescom and Intel to play. The ever popular F1 simulators featuring will be back as well as a sneak peak of new levels in Portal 2, courtesy of Razer’s new Hydra game controllers, in 3D no less! I had the opportunity to play a few of the new Portal 2 levels with the Hydra controllers and believe me, they bring an entirely new dimension to game play.

I’m not only excited about the gaming competition, gaming zone and all the other things that make up gamescom, I’m also excited about returning to Cologne, this is a beautiful city. Great gaming competition, interesting sites, schnitzel and German beer make Don a happy boy!

I’ll be posting daily bringing the highlights of the competition from gamescom (and sharing anything else that I find note worthy) so please watch this space. You can also follow me on twitter, flickr and YouTube.
